Adventure Dolphin - Voyageurs Lapp Trek Expedition, 1987
Adventure Dolphin Lapp Trek Expedition
History   Ice Cap   Voyageurs   Artic Way
The Lappland Trek expedition offered an opportunity for eighteen young people, aged between 15 and 19 years, from Emmbrook, Piggott and Willink schools to take part in an exploration of Lappland on foot and by open canoe during four weeks in the Summer of 1987.
It brought together three schools with a tradition of outdoor education through the enthusiasm of staff belonging to the Berkshire Teachers Outdoor Pursuits Club, Adventure Dolphin and the Warren Canoe Club. It was given the full support of the County Education Authority and was approved by the Young Explorers' Trust.
Lapp Trek Expedition 1987 Open Canoeing
On the first stage of the expedition members were required to navigate through a wild mountain environment with only the food and equipment they could carry. On the second stage they had to be able to proficiently paddle an open canoe down a river containing many rapids.

The young people took an active part throughout the various stages of planning and undertaking the expedition. The ability to work as a group and closely co-operate with others was a very important aspect. During the expedition, studies of a scientific, geographical or social nature were carried out.
