Adventure Dolphin - Voyageurs Artic Way, Project 2000

History   Ice Cap   Lapp Trek   Voyageurs

The Artic Way Expedition was one of two expeditions that travelled to Lapland (Sapmi) as part of the Project 2000 series of expeditions from Adventure Dolphin.

The Artic Way Expedition offered an opportunity for 15 young people, aged between 15 to 24 years to take part in a 200 km backpacking journey across the mountains of Northern Sweden during three weeks in the Summer of 2000.

The expedition members were required to navigate from Kvikkjokk to Abisko through a wild mountain environment with only the food and camping equipment they could carry.

During the first stages of the 17 day journey the trail passed through rough birch forest and finding a suitable place to camp without swarms of mosquitoes was a major problem. The next difficulties were the large lakes, which had to be rowed across.

Later on, the trail almost disappeared amongst the boulders fields as it climbed higher onto the snowy hills. Up on the hills the mosquitoes were left behind, and finding a place to safely wade across icy rivers was the new challenge.
