Answers to those questions

Chances are you're not the only person whos asked us that question on your mind. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions, and if you can't find what you need, please don't hesitiate to contact us.

Am I at beginner, intermediate or advanced level?

Beginner level is for novices with no or little experience at the sport: you may have climbed or canoed before but you either have no formal qualifications or an entry level (NICAS Level 1, BCU 1*, BCU Paddlepower Passport) in the sport.

Intermediate level is for people with some experience in their sport: kayakers and canoeists will have reached BCU Paddlepower Discover or BCU 2*, and be working towards Paddlepower Explore or 3*. Climbers will have completed NICAS Level 1 or similar, and have spent a dozen or so hours hanging around on our indoor climbing walls. You’ll be looking to taking your climbing higher or outside.

Advanced level is for those with a lot of experience and looking to taking great steps forward: kayakers and canoeists will have completed 4* training and be looking to take their assessment. Climbers will have experience leading climbs and will have undertaken some multi-pitch climbs outdoors. If you haven’t already, you’ll be looking to lead climbs outdoors and complete your CWA.

For coaches, beginner level is UKCC Level 1, intermediate is UKCC Level 2 and advanced is UKCC Level 3 or beyond.

Where are the Dolphins?

We don’t have any dolphins. It is the surname of the founder of the club.
