Verge Gold girls did their practice expo over the Easter holidays all had a good time even if the weather throw everything at them, Hail Rain and very cold night and day temperatures. The National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS) is a UK wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing structures. It can be used as a starting point for people wishing to take up climbing and mountaineering. It is open to all candidates aged 7 and upwards.

Berkshire CPShas announced a new Bursary - Get Berkshire Active Coach Bursary.

The aim of the bursary is to increase the number of qualified coaches and raise coaching standards in Berkshire with a focus on participation in sport for those aged 16 and over.

Current SituationI started working at the centre in 2005 and was responsible for the development of paddling for club members. A number of the younger paddlers at the centre expressed an interest in coaching and quickly become involved with the Cadet Leader scheme. Currently, the BCU does not require coaches to update their Safeguarding training after 3 years, so if the coach has a certificate that is older than 3 years, it will still be valid. Again, for further information please visit the link to the Canoe England website.

All BCU coaches need a recognised Safeguarding and protecting children certificate. →

Please canallcoaches be aware that as of 31st December 2011, you will have to have an enhanced CRB through the BCU, andyou will have to send into the BCU offices at Bingham, a copy of their Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults certificate. Although this has been published in CoDe, many coaches are still unaware of these requirements that will come into effect at the end of this year. →

Voyageurs started back in September with a new group of young people working towards the DofE awards. The group is a mixture of people working towards the Silver and Gold levels of the award.

The term started with some team building activities, which included building towers out of marshmallows and pasta (can you guess which building materials got eaten) →

On Saturday 10 Septembera group of ladies and girls from Adventure Dolphin headed to the Wye Valley for a action packed day of paddling and climbing.

Our day began at 7am with kit selection and trailer loading. I was shocked when I checked the clock as we left the car park to see it was only 7.30am, I was impressed with how quickly we where loaded and ready to leave.
