David Beckham has arrived

David Beckham has arrived at the centre, or at least acardboard cut out has.

Sainsburys are running the active kids scheme where vouchers can be collect and exchanged for sports equipment. Last year thanks to everyones collecting the centre was able to gain some great bits of sports equipment which has been put to good use with DofE groups, day groups and youth clubs.

Ladies Xmas Paddle

It’s been an amazing year of Ladies paddling in 2011. We have been on adventures all over the placein all types of boats. We ended the year with our now annual Ladies Xmas Paddle.

Keeping with the theme from last year of passing castles by the river our paddle this year took us past Hampton Court Palace. We arrived at the centre early Sunday morning 18 santa hats and one Turkey hat all present and ready to paddle.

Welcome Back Voyageurs

Voyageurs started back in September with a new group of young people working towards the DofE awards. The group is a mixture of people working towards the Silver and Gold levels of the award.

The term started with some team building activities, which included building towers out of marshmallows and pasta (can you guess which building materials got eaten)

Girls Paddle Day

On Saturday 10 Septembera group of ladies and girls from Adventure Dolphin headed to the Wye Valley for a action packed day of paddling and climbing.

Our day began at 7am with kit selection and trailer loading. I was shocked when I checked the clock as we left the car park to see it was only 7.30am, I was impressed with how quickly we where loaded and ready to leave. As we drove down I was hopeful each time the sun came out, this was quickly dashed with the following rain, but

Last group of the summer

Today we had the last group of the summer. Its been a busy year with Paddling, climbing, biking, camping, orienteering and trips home and abroad.

Its been a great summer and we are now busy planning the programme for next year. Keep checking the website for details.

Family Open Day

A chance to come down as a family to try a variety of activities which may include climbing, orienteering, archery and Bell Boating. Come and celebrate the end of the summer with all the family and try something new.

The day will be taking place on the 4 September 10am - 3pm

£10 per family

2* Assessments

Have you been training towards the BCU 2* award?

On the 3 September the centre is holding a 2* assessment day.

During the day you will be asked to show paddling skills in both canoes and kayak. A short trip will also form part of the assessment.

The assessment cost is £17 Student £20 Adult

Give London the Eye

We have apaddling trip coming up for paddlers to explore the tidal section of the River Thames. The trip explores the Thames in London taking in sights like the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye.

This is a great trip for those wishing to gaintrip experience towards Star awards or practice skills in a new environment.

Ladies Paddling

SinceSeptember 2010 we have been running a programme of ladies paddling trips. These have included a trip down the River Wye in kayaks, a christmas open canoe paddle on the Thames, exploring the backwaters of Oxford and a adventure on the sea. The days have all been great fun but now we need your ideas and help to plan the next ladies paddlingadventures.

Girls Sea Paddle

On the 7 May the ladies of Adventure Dolphin including our new member Katy aka Ken headed to Lepe for a days paddling on the South Coast. I was feeling unimpressed when I awoke in the morning to rain, girls paddling days have always been sunny. I should have realised that as soon as we started heading south the sun would not let us down.

Voyageur Training Weekend

The Voyageurs group enjoyed a sunny training expedition in Dartmoor. The group undertook the training as part of their Gold DofE expedition section.

The group planned a route which took them over the moors for three days. The moor held some navigation challenges for the group but I am pleased to report they only got misplaced once.The group coped well in the hot weather, the expedition included carrying their kit for three days.

Surf the Waves

As the weather is warming up its a great time to head down to the coast and try out some kayak surfing. On the 16 April we have a exciting opportunityfor paddlers to take kayaks and sit on tops to the beach. You will have the chance to try out surfing for the first time or continue to develop your surf skills.

The trip is open to paddlers who are working towards Discover level and above.

St Patricks Stream

A reminder of a trip we have coming up for canoe and kayak paddlers. The trip is running on Saturday 19 March, as the nearest weekend to St Patricks day this is a fun paddle on St Patricks Stream a picturesque backwater on the River Thames.

February Half Term

Adventure Dolphin was alive with the sound of lots of young people during the February half term. The week saw 45 young people take part in three themed days held at the centre.

Monday was our survival challenge day which included parachute games, explorers walk, shelter building in Sulham Woods and creating our explorers handbook. It was a wet and muddy day but
