A really fantastic time was had by all. We would like to say a big thankyou to Clare Westall and her summer team for making the week run so smoothly. We had the honour of Gill Goodchild visiting us as the VIP and presenting the certificates. The young people did a series of sessions that have focussed around the BCU paddlepower scheme. →
Adventure Dolphin Activity Festival
Due to the weather forecast and the river levels forcast the water activities have been posponed to 7th September 5pm-9pm.
However there will still be archery, rock climbing and paddling machinie activities taking place inside. These are going to running from 10-12:30.

Ladies Xmas Paddle
It’s been an amazing year of Ladies paddling in 2011. We have been on adventures all over the placein all types of boats. We ended the year with our now annual Ladies Xmas Paddle.
Keeping with the theme from last year of passing castles by the river our paddle this year took us past Hampton Court Palace. We arrived at the centre early Sunday morning 18 santa hats and one Turkey hat all present and ready to paddle. →

Safeguarding and Protecting children
Currently, the BCU does not require coaches to update their Safeguarding training after 3 years, so if the coach has a certificate that is older than 3 years, it will still be valid. Again, for further information please visit the link to the Canoe England website.
All BCU coaches need a recognised Safeguarding and protecting children certificate. →
Please canallcoaches be aware that as of 31st December 2011, you will have to have an enhanced CRB through the BCU, andyou will have to send into the BCU offices at Bingham, a copy of their Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults certificate. Although this has been published in CoDe, many coaches are still unaware of these requirements that will come into effect at the end of this year. →

Reading Smiles are a group of young people from The Avenue School. They have been working towards the paddle power scheme ready to do there Practice Expedition from Shilling ford to Wallingford then camp over night and start again finally finishing near the old fair mile hospital.

The daytime programme has worked with 155 groups between April and July of this year.

This year the top club canoeing programme has been hugely popular with local secondary schools. Since April we have had 28 schools join us to undertake a five week programme of paddling. During the five weeks the young people have been working towards the BCU Paddlepower start award and learning about Bell Boats, Canoes and Kayaks.Many of the young people have been linking into other areas of the centre programme including holiday and evening →

The group are working towards a paddling expedition which will be taking place during the school summer holidays.
